Find your pickleball level - without waiting for a rating.
A free self-assessment quiz that estimates where you sit on the familiar 2.0-5.0 scale. Answer nine quick questions about your serve, dinks, third shot and strategy, and get an instant level to help you pick the right games. It's an estimate to guide you - not an official rating.
Who it's for
For players who want a number to start from
If you've been told to "join a 3.5 game" but have no idea whether that's you, a self-rating helps. Most open-play groups, ladders and beginner tournaments are organised by level, and turning up to the wrong one is frustrating for everyone.
This quiz walks through the shots that actually decide matches and gives you a level to work from, so you can find games that are competitive rather than lopsided - then let real play confirm it.

How it works
From your answers to a level in three steps
Answer nine questions
One for each key skill - serve, return, dinking, third shot, volleys, backhand, strategy and errors.
The soft game counts more
Dinking, the third shot and strategy carry extra weight, because they separate players the most.

A level on the 2.0-5.0 scale, snapped to the nearest 0.25, with a plain description of what it means.
What you get
A level, and what it actually looks like
The result isn't just a number. Alongside your estimated level you get a short, plain-English description of that band - what a player at that level typically does well, and what usually holds them back.
Leave a question unanswered and the quiz still gives an estimate, but tells you it's less reliable. Nothing is stored, and there's no sign-up - refresh the page and it's gone.

Built on the skill areas players already use
The level descriptions are written in our own words, based on the skill areas USA Pickleball uses to define player ratings - serve and return depth, the soft game at the kitchen line, the third shot, resets and strategy. We describe them plainly rather than copying anyone's text.
This is a self-assessment estimate to help you pick the right games and set goals. It is not an official DUPR or USA Pickleball rating - a DUPR rating comes only from recorded match results on dupr.com - and we're not affiliated with USA Pickleball or DUPR. Use it as a starting point, then let real games fine-tune it.

What is a 3.5 pickleball player?
A 3.5 player has moved past basic consistency and can sustain rallies, place dinks with some intention, and execute a reliable third-shot drop most of the time. Overhead smashes and erne shots are in their awareness even if not fully reliable. Most recreational club players fall in the 3.0–3.5 range. Take the quiz above for a self-assessed estimate based on your actual game.
What is a good pickleball rating for a beginner?
Most beginners start at 2.0–2.5. A 2.0 player knows the basic rules and can get the ball over the net; a 2.5 player is developing consistency and starting to play the kitchen line. After a few months of regular play most recreational beginners reach 3.0, where rallies become sustainable and basic strategy kicks in.
What is the difference between DUPR and UTPR ratings?
DUPR (Dynamic Universal Pickleball Rating) is a private rating system that calculates ratings from match results submitted by players and clubs — it runs from 2.000 to 8.000. UTPR (USA Pickleball Tournament Player Rating) is the official USA Pickleball tournament rating, calculated from sanctioned tournament play only, and runs on a similar scale. Most recreational players use DUPR; tournament players accumulate both. The quiz on this site gives a self-assessed estimate independent of either system.
How do I find my official pickleball rating?
For a DUPR rating, create a free account at dupr.app, log your match results, and your rating calculates automatically once you have enough recorded matches. For a UTPR rating, play in USA Pickleball sanctioned tournaments — results are submitted by tournament directors. If you have not played in rated matches yet, this quiz gives an unofficial starting estimate.
